Ladakh : Ladakh, also known as little Tibet, is a land like no other. Ladakh (Land of high passes) is a region of Jammu & Kashmir, the northernmost state of the incredible India. It lies between the Karakoram mountain range in the north and the main Great Himalaya to the South, inhabited by the people of Indo-Aryan and Tibetan descent. The Landscape of Ladakh is dotted with ancient Buddhist monasteries and Stupas. The culture of Ladakh is similar to the Tibetan and the food has much in common with Tibetan food. The most prominent foods being thukpa (noodle soup) and tsampa, (roasted barley flour). Edible without cooking, tsampa makes useful trekking food. A dish that is strictly Ladakhi is skyu, a heavy pasta dish with root vegetables. As in other parts of Central Asia, tea in Ladakh is traditionally made with strong green tea, butter, and salt. It is mixed in a large churn and known as gurgur cha, after the sound it makes when mixed. Sweet tea (cha ngarmo) is common now, made in the Indian style with milk and sugar. Most of the additional barley that is produced is fermented into Chang, an alcoholic beverage drunk especially on festive occasions. Ladakh is home of few but very scenic lakes. A worth trip for all.

 

Day 01: Arrive Leh

Arrive Leh, transfer to Hotel. Day is at rest for acclimatization. Evening, enjoy short hike around the Leh Bazar. Overnight at Hotel. (3500m)

 

Day 02: Leh (Sightseeing in and around Leh)

Post breakfast, free. Post Lunch; drive around Leh to visit Shanti Stupa, Leh Palace and then Hall of Fame Museum (For Heroes of Kargil war by Indian army). Overnight stay at hotel.

 

Day 03: Sightseeing tour to Stok - Thiksey - Hemis

After breakfast, drive to Stok village. Visit Stok Royal Palace. It has Great collection of Royal dresses, Armor, statues and ancient Thangkas (Scroll paintings).After the visit, drive to Hemis monastery. Visit Hemis monastery, biggest and richest monastery in Ladakh, built in 16th century by Lama Stagtsan Raspa. Later drive back to Leh via visiting picturesque Thiksey monastery. Overnight at hotel.

 

Day 04: Drive Leh – Nubra - Camel Riding in Nubra (120 kms)

Morning after breakfast, drive to Nubra, 120 kms (one way) from Leh and it takes about 4-5 hrs drive, by crossing Khardung-la (The highest motorable road in the world 5602 m). On the way, you have amazing panoramic view of Indus valley, Shayok River, Himalayan Mountains and Karakoram Mountains range. Explore the Nubra valley (The valley of flowers). Arrive Hunder where you enjoy the Double humped bacterian camel riding (Optional). After that continue driving to Deskit (administrative block of Nubra valley) and visit the monastery. This picturesque monastery built on hill top overlooking the valley. Enjoy magnificent and awesome view of valley and mountains of Karakoram Range. The most attractive features of Nubra valley is the sand dune. Overnight at Hotel/ Fixed Camp. (3165m)

 

Day 05: Drive Nubra – Leh (120 kms)

Morning after breakfast, drive back to Leh via khardungla. Arrive Leh by late afternoon. Post Lunch, free to explore Leh market. Overnight at Hotel. (3500m).

 

Day 06: Drive Leh – Chang-La (5360 m) - Pangong Lake (170 kms)

Morning, drive to Pangong Lake 170 kms from Leh. Today you cross Chang-la pass (The world's third highest motorable road 5360 m). On the way, you have amazing view of charming villages, beautiful mountains, animals like Yaks, nomads and beautiful valley of Changthang. Arrive at Lake, the Lake is 136 kms long and 5 kms wide, 47% of this lake is in India and rest is in Tibet. The view of lake is spectacular and breathtaking. Enjoy the unforgettable scenery beauty of Lake and the voice of Himalayan migrant birds. Overnight at camp in Pangong Lake.

 

Day 07: Drive Pangong Lake – Leh (170 kms)

Enjoy the breakfast with the sunshine and awesome view of Lake then drive back to Leh (170 kms). Arrive Leh by late afternoon. Free to explore Leh. Overnight at Hotel in Leh.

 

Day 08: Drive Leh – (Phey) Rafting point – Nimoo – Magnetic Hill- Pathar Sahib (Gurudwara) - Leh

Morning after breakfast, drive to Phey (Rafting point 14kms from Leh). Few minutes for briefing then raft in the Indus River (3-4 hrs) (Optional). The rafting in Indus River is very exciting and enjoyable. Rafting is very gentle as compare that in Zanskar River. It takes about 2 ½ hrs to reach at Nimoo village where you arrive at Junction (Sangam) of Zanskar and Indus Rivers. Have hot Lunch at rafting finishing point and then drive back to Leh via enjoy view of Sangam and visiting Magnetic Hill, Pathar Sahib (Gurudwara). Overnight at hotel in Leh.

 

Day 09: Flight Leh – Delhi

Early morning transfer to Airport to catch the flight back to Delhi.
